Exacting Requirements

Norwegian requirements for students travelling abroad for a term are too tough. Several students who travelled to Costa Rica registered for 15 creditos, having been told that this was the equivalent of one term\'s study. The local secretariat for student administration informed them that the average number of creditos per term was nine. The students, some of whom have returned to Norway, are now uncertain whether their studies in Costa Rica will be approved by the Norwegian university. Failure to have their stay approved will result in them having to repay their student grants.

A number of students are taking private lessons with senior students prior to their exams in the hope of achieving better results. Norbo Tenzin pays NOK 100 per lesson, but says he does not feel sorry for less well off students who cannot afford to buy such services.
