Trondheim and Tromsø receive gender equality award
Previous to the Stjernø announcement, the Minister of Research and Higher Education, Tora Aasland, presented the Gender Equality Award 2007 to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim and the Institute for Marine Biotechnology at the University of Tromsø.
The ministry of Education and Research established the award worth two million kroner last year. The award goes to the institution that has done the most to promote women in science, and the price money for 2007 is shared between the two Universities with 1.5 million kroner to NTNU and 0.5 million to the University of Tromsø.
– I hope that this will inspire more institutions to keep up the good work. There are a lot of gender equality measures in the sector, but we still have a long way to go, Aasland stated in a press release from the Ministry.
