Culture Calendar 21st – 27th September
A free trip to a museum, a visit to an organic farm, or a film festival full of interesting movies about gender and sexuality? Lots of good stuff waiting for you in Oslo this week.
It is Oslo Innovation Week 2020. Between the 21st and 25th, you can join an abundance of events about circular economy, energy or the future of work. Browse through their program here. The events will be online, keeping with the times. We recommend checking out the talk Post-Pandemic Norway: The role of skilled immigrants in the rebuilding process on Thursday the 24th at 1pm. The event is free.
If you feel like going out and meeting new people, this language exchange event at Frognerstranda Kro is for you. Bring yourself, your language, maybe a friend, and broaden your circle. The event is on Thursday the 24th from 8 pm.
If you’re up for a cozy and free trip to a museum this week, you have several options. On Thursday the 24th – like every Thursday, actually – admissions to the Natural History Museum are free. Combine a stroll in the lovely Botanical Gardens with looking at their cool collection of rocks, minerals and crystals (some from space) or learning about dinosaurs and wildlife of the past.
On Saturday the 26th, you can also visit The Historical Museum for free and see the only large-scale church decoration preserved from the Norwegian Middle Ages; the ceiling of Ål stave church. (Psst – if you’re a student at UiO, you can always enter these museums for free, just bring your student card).
A very exciting film festival is happening this week. Oslo/Fusion is Norway’s only film festival focusing on gender, sexuality and diversity. It will be running from the 25th of September to the 2nd of October at Cinemateket. You can check out the full program, which has lots of titles in English or with English subtitles, here. Ordinary tickets are 100 NOK, but if you’re a student under the age of 25, the tickets are only 75 NOK.
If Oslo/Fusion sounds like your thing, join the festival kick-off party on Saturday the 26th, hosted at Ingensteds in collaboration with Karmaklubb*. There will be music, film screenings and a drag show. All at a safe social distance.
After a busy week, and maybe weekend too, wouldn’t it be nice to relax, smell the fresh air and taste the ripe fruits and vegetables of the autumn season? As part of Økouka, you can visit the organic farm Tveten Andelsgård on Sunday the 27th of September from 11 am – 3 pm. You can take a walk on their eco-path, forage flower seeds or just enjoy the plants and vegetables while having a beautiful view of Oslo. The event is in Norwegian, but luckily plants don’t require you being fluent, so do go and enjoy.
