Culture Calendar 28th September - 4th October
Yuhoo. It is fall break! Were your travel plans cancelled because of the stricter travel restriction? No worries, there are many things you can do, enjoy, and learn within Oslo and around.
First things first, September is soon at its end and so are the free entrances to various museums and important buildings. Hurry up and grab the opportunities if you have not done already (UiO students can enter some of the museums for free throughout the year). Similarly, 30th Oslo Fusion International Film Festival 2020 is continuing until 3rd of October. Broaden your familiarity with gender and sexuality by joining the film screenings.
Let us begin with food. What can be cooler than a Grocery Tour in Central Oslo for new residents of the city. You can learn about popular grocery chains around Oslo and their odd opening timing during holidays and vacations. If you already miss your homeland cuisine and are wondering about shops to find the ingredients, join them for an international stores tour on 30th September from 11 to 13.
The following day is for you to spice up your tongue with different languages. Do you want to make sense of unfamiliar sounds? Join language exchange and make friends in Oslo at Youngstorget from 20 to 23:30 on 1st of October. Share your language and culture with your new friends in Oslo. Let’s hype up Oslo with colors of international spices and languages.
Join FjellTid the same night to enjoy the full moon of the autumn at Vettakollen, fullmånetur til Vettakollen. The trip is free for those who have fjellkort and 75 Nok for those who do not have it. You need to sign up by 29th September and be present at the Vettakollen station at 17:30 on the tour day.
Do you have too many plants, or want to have a different type of greenery in the house? Then visit Plantebyttemarked on Sunday 4th October 2020 from 12 to 14 to exchange your plants. The exchange event is free, but you are required to book a time slot in advance for better management of covid19 transmission control.
It is a gloomy weather forecast for this week. Do you want to stay indoor yet participate in interesting events? Many talks and career development meets are happening throughout the week. Karrieresenteret and UiO are collaboratively hosting webinars on building attractive LinkedIn profile, job application and interview on 29th, 30th September and 1st October, respectively. Similarly, there are many other webinars on different field of studies. Keep your eyes and Facebook notification open.
Insider tips to enjoy the dull sky: just wear rainproof clothing and fixate your eyes to the colourful landscape around you. Walk around Nordmarka, Østmarka or even beyond; fall is beautiful.
What can be better than ending the fall break with fun memories from DJ parties? There are free concerts on 2nd and 3rd October at Kulturhuset from 19 to 23:45 on both nights. Two thriving DJ artists from Norway are ready to lite up the culture house with their hypnotic music. It is in our best interest to abide by the infection control measures by the organisers.
