Culture Calendar September 7th to 13th
The third week into the autumn semester, but our hunger to explore, engage, learn, and socialize is ever growing. Get your calendars update because yet another exciting week is just a heartbeat away!
Did you miss tours of famous museums and important buildings around Oslo (The Opera house, Natural History Museum, Cultural history Museum, Vigeland museum, Viking Ship Museum, Oslo Tram Museum, Oslo Museum: Oslo City Museum, Intercultural museum, the theater museum)? Don’t worry, the month of September is generously dedicated to offer many free tours, especially between Sundays and Tuesdays. All you need to do is RAVP and go at the venue with your student ID card. Details of the tours can be found on Studentslippet calendar.
Have you ever pondered how it would be to live in historical times while enlisting museum visits on your calendar? Then your imagination can meet reality through the Medieval Oslo Walk on Sunday, 13th of September. The walk starts from 14:00 at Ruinparken, and you are requested to be there 10 minutes earlier and look for a guide in blue. Similarly, there is another guided tour in the exhibition of “War and everyday life” arranged by Oslo Museum at Bymuseet on 10th September from 13 to 14.
But if you prefer enjoying the modern times, Oslo City Walk is happening on 9th September from 2 pm to 4 pm departing from the Nobel Peace Center. Another Street Art tour is arranged along the streets of Tøyen on 10th September from 15 to 17, and on 12th from 13 to 15.
Let us balance the fun of knowledge acquisition with some music and festival! Monday fun Quiz at Salt is once again at our doorsteps with the prospects of winning free sauna and concert tickets. The entrance is open from 18 in the evening and the quiz starts at 19. Entrance is free but remember, only the first 20 groups (6 persons in each) can participate and must verify that all are 18+.
No worries if you cannot be amongst the first 20 because another weekly Stienars Open Mic is being hosted at MIR on Tuesday, 8th September with standup comedy, poems, magic, and music. You are more than welcome to ignite the stage with your own talents by signing up with them in advance.
But if you rather want to enjoy the evening in the embrace of nature, join for an evening walk at Nordmarka starting from Songsvann metro station at 6 pm on the same evening with OsloMet IL Tur and Friluftsliv.
Or, you can save the nature recharge time for a “Trip with meaning” organised by HoldNorgeRent from 12th to 13th September to collect the garbage along with a fun outdoor trip. You can also join larger scheme of the event in cleaning rivers, beaches, trails and urban spaces at your own pace and time from 5th to 20th September through this Autumn’s clean up campaign.
For all the environment enthusiasts, there is another opportunity to join a climate, conservation, and activist group, Naturvernstudentene at UiO by attending their Election and Information meeting on 7th September from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Even if you end up deciding not to join, you can enjoy the evening with “probably” free pizzas!
Talking about free food, what can be cooler than free soup in EDIBLE cups? Food Mingling and Free Market is happening on 10th of September starting from 5 pm to 17 pm. Enjoy a fun evening with food, hangout and 3 free things from the market of recycling and renovation at Bykubben.
Last but not the least, brace yourself for The Losæterfestival 2020 in the middle of September, and that is also for free! Losæterfestivalen extends from 11th until 12th September. These two days are fun filled with concerts, open jam, baking Norwegian crispy and crunchy flat bread (flatbrø), cheap market, children’s paradise (pizza making, sheep patting etc.) and musical story telling. On the first day, you are most welcome to bring your own instrument and join the rhythm at the urban farm of Oslo, Losæater.
Remember, RAVP is required for almost all the events mentioned above. Visit their pages and reserve yourself a spot.
