150 000 more to sponsor cultural events
The newly elected leader of the Cultural Events Board has got 150 000 more to distribute than expected and is looking for new ways to spend the money.

FUNDING: One third of this sum is allocated to student organisations that welcomes international students.
– The international students are an important resource to the University of Oslo, and it is important to make them feel at home here in Norway, says Erlend Sand Bruer, newly elected leader of the Cultural Events Board at the Foundation of Student Life in Oslo (SiO).
The 150 000 kroner is in addition to the 2.3 millions that has already been allocated for 2008.
– The money was set aside for the student organisations in 2006 in case of account deficits, but it was not spent, Sand Bruer says.
Looking for fresh ideas
In addition to focusing on the international students, the Cultural Events Board wishes to promote student events that focus on cultural issues or topics of current interest, and to facilitate activities that encourages interaction between the various student organisations. The last two years’ funding of student publications is not part of the Board’s agenda for this year.
The Norwegian Students’ Society and the student union at the Norwegian school of management in Oslo, SBIO, are also mentioned as two important priorities.
– This type of funding is very important to us. It gives us the opportunity to spend money on cultural events such as the show we put up every other year, Lennart A. Lie-Havstein informs. He is the President of SBIO and the one in charge of allocating the funds to the 19 different student organisations and 20 different committees.
The next closing date for applications to the Cultural Events Board is on 18 February.
