– Send professors to the school bench

Moderat Gruppe (The centre-right coalition) is tired off professors not managing to convey their knowledge to the students. Now, Moderat Gruppe demands lecturers that manage to inspire their students.

Moderat Gruppe is promoting the following issues:

  • Less mandatory lectures.
  • Inclusive education
  • Internationalization: with easy accessible and relevant possibilities to study abroad.

Student politics at UiO:

  • The Student Parliament is the students’ highest political body at UiO. The Parliament promotes the political interest of the students towards the university.
  • This year’s Student Parliament election is due to take place from April 23rd to the 26th.
  • You can vote for Grøn Liste, Blå Liste, Sosialdemokratene, Moderat Gruppe, Venstrealliansen or Fakultetslistene.

– We have substantial demands regarding better education, said Per Øyvind Voie, the Moderat Gruppe (MG) representative from The faculty of education.

Both he and the representative from The faculty of social sciences, Camilla Strandskog, are freshmen in student politics, and with this high-priority cause they launch the candidature of one of the oldest student parties in the Student Parliament. MG considers themselves to be the only student party on the political right, and fights, according to themselves, continually for the students right to be in charge of their everyday student life.

Uninspiring lectures

Voie thinks professors are doing a bad job at conveying their research.

– For students to be able to develop and engage themselves, they rely on good lecturers. These days, we see that many lecturers aren’t managing to make themselves understood. One solution to this is to send them on a course to learn educational techniques, he said.

– Suggestions from other authorities are not a too bad idea either, Strandskog said.

She tells that many lecturers use poorly updater Powerpoints, while in other cases the professors has written their whole curriculum themselves. She questions the absence of critical glances.

– A lot of the education is also obsolete, Voie said.

Thus he thinks it would be good to get external help to put the research in a new spotlight.

Student related work

Voie first of all thinks the Student Parliament has to work on issues where they have real influence.

– The focus must mainly be on student related issues. Everything about The Services Directive and foreign politics in general should come in second line, he said, rubbishing the Left Alliance and a big part of their political engagement.

Strandskog informs that MG wishes that the students should have a larger influence and connection with the Student Parliament.

– To boost participation in the election, we have to work on issues that actually affect the students.

Supports student associations

MG also wants to place a higher priority on student associations. The ambition is to double the economical support compared to today’s standard.

– New students at the university often have problems with orientating and adapting to their new student life. Many of the student associations are very good at giving the students a safe and sociable environment, said Strandskog.

– So why vote for Moderat Gruppe?

– Our wish is a university that with Inclusive education, and we want to remove the mandatory hand-ins to give you the opportunity to compose your own plan towards your exams.
