Student politics at the University

  • Fakultetslistene comprises SV-lista and HF-lista (as mentioned above) as well as Realistlista (the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and TF-lista (the Faculty of Theology). The four lists from the various faculties co-operate and promote mutual candidates.
  • The Student Parliament is the highest student authority at UiO. The Parliament presents student matters before UiO.
  • This year’s Student Parliament Election, where students cast their votes, is scheduled to take place by the end of March/beginning of April.
  • Here are your voting alternatives: Moderat Gruppe, Sosialdemokratene, Venstrealliansen, Fakultetslistene, Grøn Liste and Morbus Medicus. (Karl Johans-lista will not be running this year).
  • Leading up to the Election, Universitas will be presenting the various manifestos of the groups.

– During exams, faculties use study halls as examination rooms. Consequently, the available study desks are taken away from students when they need them the most. We will do something about this, Thomas Andre Syvertsen says, who is top of the list representing the Faculty of Humanities (HF-lista). He thereby makes an election promise that will suit virtually any UiO student’s taste.

Fakultetslistene wants to make sure that the University keep what they have promised, i.e. refurbish the Preclinical Dentistry building situated in the heart of Blindern campus. The building with its 9000 square metres is currently not occupied.

– UiO spends millions of Norwegian kroner each year on external rent downtown, a lot of which would have been saved if the building were up to code, Iselin Rud-Goksøyr representing the Faculty of Social Sciences (SV-lista) says.

Get rid of the blinding sun

Not only will Fakultetslistene provide more space for students, they are also ready to improve the indoor climate at UiO as well.

– In the lecture theatres and study halls, you are either too cold or blinded by the sun. Furthermore, the air can be so stuffy that students get headaches and are unable to work, Syvertsen says.

– Students spend many hours during the week at the University, and thus it can’t be like this, that they get ill simply by being there, Robin Sande from SV-lista says. He promises that this will be something that Fakultetslistene is going to confront UiO with.

Non-political group

Last year, Fakultetslistene got 17 out of the 55 seats in the Student Parliament in addition to the leader. It is currently the biggest party in student politics.

– We probably attract more students than the other groups because we have no political foundation. It is not necessarily the case that everyone engaged in student politics is interested in politics in general, Syvertsen says. He is supported by Student Parliament leader Maria Veie Sandvik (HF-lista):

– The advantage of Fakultetslistene is that political manifestos do not interfere with good and specific solutions.
