Five excuses not to study this weekend! Ranging from music, to art to language training – we’ve got you covered.

This weekend’s music line up starts with No Mind State supported by The Crates. The venue Pokalen is situated next to the diverse food hall Mathallen. Grab a bite there first and head over to see the up-and-coming alternative rock band this Friday.

This Saturday, why not pop down to Smelteverket Gastro Pub, which boasts that the bar there is the longest in Oslo. They will be hosting live music by The Pueblo and Alex, a popular Norwegian band whose great stage presence, funky rhythms and upbeat tunes are sure to lift your spirits. A student friendly price too; free admission!

For Instagram photo opportunities with a highbrow alibi, the Oslo Opera House is providing guided tours in English all weekend. Jutting out onto the Oslo Fjord, its iceberg inspired architecture and internal art commissions are available at the student rate of 40 NOK a ticket.

Two conflicting artistic styles come together beautifully with a dual exhibition at Rod Bianco Gallery this Sunday. Sverre Bjertnes is making waves in the contemporary art scene whereas Bjarne Melgaard is known for his controversial installations. Their paintings and sculptures are centered around the Norwegian author Stig Sæterbakken; drink, peruse and enjoy. This is your last chance as it closes this Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Amatøren Pub has found the gap in the market for enjoyable Norwegian language training. Devoid of rote learning and the dreaded Æ, Ø, Å enunciation; their Language Pub night provides an entertaining, interactive and relaxed space in which to learn. Grasp the basics of Norwegian in a laid-back environment: grab a pint and chat to local and international students alike.
