ANNIVERSARY: While most of us still haven’t gotten used to writing 2008, some people are already writing 2011. This is the year the University of Oslo (UiO) is celebrating its distinguished 200 year anniversary, a one year long festivity for the whole of the University. In relation to this, UiO is placing one million kroner at the disposal of the person who’s got the best idea of how to spend it. President of the Student Parliament, Heine Skipenes, encourages students to apply.

– The Student Parliament has been working on the anniversary for three to four years already, and so far there’s been a lot of focus on the staff. But this is the students’ anniversary too. The work begins this spring and no idea is too big or too small. Student involvement equals a staff on 30 000 people, all with different knowledge and skills.

– What kind of projects can people apply for?

– It’s all right to think big, for instance by arranging concerts or bringing in some expert lecturers from abroad. But it’s too early to make any decisions and it is hard to know what will or will not work. However, this is a golden opportunity to break fresh ground and students are good at that.
