Reforming Exams

Publisert

The educational reform has removed the legal requirement for external examiners. It is now up to individual institutes of education to decide whether they can afford to pay for external examiners. In addition, students\' anonymity will no longer be safeguarded. The leader of the academic committee at the Institute for Cultural Studies criticise the move. The committee fears that examinations carried out by lecturers may be less objective. Kristina Skåden of the academic committee for ethnology shares these concerns. – We may end up with lecturers who have written and chosen the set texts for students, she says. – Now they will also be able to supervise the discussion of the syllabus.

Professor of Folklore Anne Eriksen does not think that the new rule will create problems. – Every student can take up to six different courses with six different teachers. This will ensure that students are graded impartially, she argues.
