Students' Discount

As of 1 August all students under the age of 30 will be given a 40 per cent discount on buses, trams, the underground and local railways. Students\' organisations have been fighting for a student discount on public transport for the past three years, and Torstein Lindstad, the leader of the Students\' Parliament, says he is extremely happy that a favourable decision has been reached. The government is about to propose an additional grant of 12.2 million kroner to the municipality of Oslo in order to facilitate the 40 per cent discount on students\' season tickets. Trond Larsen, the leader of NSU (The Norwegian Students\' Union), is critical of the age limit. – There are many students above the age of 30, he points out.
