Testing, Testing
Norwegian student Bo Christoffer Brekke, who has spoken Norwegian all his life, will not be able to commence university studies this term, as he must first provide formal documentation of his knowledge of the Norwegian language. Brekke, who completed his secondary schooling at the American School in Dhaka, Bangladesh, contacted Samordna Opptak (The University Central Admissions Service) in order to ascertain whether he fulfilled university entrance requirements. Although he was told that providing his U.S. papers were in order he would have no problem obtaining a place at the University, he is now forced to complete Bergenstesten, a test leading to a national certificate of Norwegian language competence. As he cannot take the test until October, he will not be able to attend lectures and tutorials until that time.
