Shrinks-to-be Draw Lots

UB Re-opening Postponed

The opening of the University Library (UB) has been delayed by two weeks, and the cellar, ground and first floor are now due to re-open on 15 October. Director of Technical Management Helga Sagsveen says that it is not yet known when the second floor will re-open. The cause of the falling ceiling plates that have precipitated the closure of the library has not yet been established. Possible explanations include a production fault in some of the plates; others blames faulty installation of the plates. The joints between the plates are now in the process of being secured with birch lists in order to prevent any future damage.

As a result of the Quality Reform, which has replaced the traditional 31 pass grades with the five grades ranging from A to E, applicants to study psychology will have to rely on luck in addition to brains and hard work. Fanni Duckert, the head of department at the Institute of Psychology, says that lots will be drawn if the Institute receives too many straight A applicants. The reason is that it is impossible for the Institute to differentiate between the many A-candidates that are likely to apply. Students and politicians alike are critical of this solution. Students aiming to study psychology in particular are frustrated that all their hard work may have been wasted.
