Works to protect the interest of the full-time student

Fakultetslistene wants better terms for full-time students. How? By keeping the libraries open on Sundays and working for educational support in June.

Fakultetslistene is promoting the following issues:

  • To make sure that there are external examiners on all examinations.
  • To make sure that the indoor climate and the educational setting is at its very best.

Student Politics at UiO:

  • The Student Parliament is the students' supreme political authority at UiO. The Parliament promotes the political interest of the students towards the university.
  • This year's Student Parliament election is due to take place on 23 April and will end on 26 April.
  • You can vote on Grøn Liste, Blå Liste, Liberal liste, Sosialdemokratene, Moderat Gruppe, Venstrealliansen and Fakultetslistene.

– It goes without saying that students should be able to study full-time, says Heine Skipenes from the Faculty of Social Science' faculty list and candidate for the leadership of the Student Parliament in the upcoming election.

Fakultetslistene now calls for longer opening hours at the reading halls and libraries. As the academic year is becoming longer, a lot of people have to put aside a great del of money in order to study in June. This could be solved by making the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund offer educational support in June, Skipenes adds.

– We want to put these things on the agenda and aim to ask the right questions so that the University Board will listen to us, he says.

Thomas André Syvertsen from the Faculty of Humanities' faculty list agrees.

– We cannot win on every issue, but we try to be very clear on the key issues that we want to push through. The University Board and the National Union for Students in Norway must be made aware of the issues that causes difficulties for the students.

More reading halls

Fakultetslistene demands that more reading halls are put aside for reading during the examination periods.

– At the moment, there are much too few places to read. Rebuilding the PO-building would improve this tremendously, Syvertsen claims.

– It is amazing how little it would take to improve the situation, Skipenes adds.

Fakultetslistene is proud to be in close contact with the students.

– We recruit our members from the student committees, and have a direct knowledge of everything that takes place at the faculty levels, Syvertsen says.

Pragmatic solutions

This past year, there has been an ongoing debate to whether the Student Parliament should try to «save the world» or rather to focus on specific student political issues. Fakultetslisten describes itself as pragmatic.

– We focus on the issues that concern the students, regardless ideology. We cooperate well with the various fractions and the University Board in order to improve the students' welfare and circumstances, Skipenes replies.
